Eldorado is traditionally at the end of a long difficult road, which is not far from the truth in our case. However, with a bit of care and good weather, one can actually leave Chicago after work and be here in time for an 8:30 seating.

Of course, we recommend that you arrive in Galena well before the hour of repast, and have found that a preferred plan is to leave the metro area after morning rush hour, say around 11:30, and take the Northwest Tollway (Interstate 90 ) to Rockford. By 12:45, you should watch for the Freeport/Cherry Valley/Galena turn-off, which is US 20 West. The turn off is about three miles past the Belvedere Toll Plaza. Belvedere is notable as the home of the Chrysler Neon. You'll see thousands of these shiny new autos on your right just past the tollbooth. Follow US 20 to Freeport and beyond, where it becomes a charming two lane highway, and you rise into the towering elevations of Jo Davies county, the highest in Illinois. When you get to the stop light in Galena, (just over the river) turn right, and proceed five blocks north on Main Street where the restaurant will be on your right, across from the beginning of Diagonal St.

From Madison, we're an hour and a quarter southwest on Route 151. Go to Platteville, and turn left on WI 80, which becomes IL 84 after a few miles. This will merge into US 20, to the left. Follow US 20 into Galena, and when you reach the stop light just before the river, turn left, and proceed as above.
